Conference of European Rabbis Annual Review 2017-2018 (5777-5778) 10 www.rabbiscer.org The Conference of European Rabbis has been involved in influencing and participating in local European government legislation. The CER was instrumental in helping overturn a bill banning religious circumcision in Iceland. The CER has also been dealing with bans on religious animal slaughter in Belgium and Poland. With strong ties to political leaders, the CER does everything in its power to protect the religious rights of European Jewry. Recently, the CER has begun building political relations with Albania and Tunisia. The CER led a Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony and participated in a dinner with the Prime Minister of Albania. The CER also participated in an interfaith conference in Tunisia and met with the Tunisian President and the Tourism Minister.
