Conference of European Rabbis joins the European Parliament to mark International Holocaust Memorial Day 2018
At a ceremony hosted by the European Parliament this afternoon (Wednesday) in Brussels, the Conference of European Rabbis will join other European Jewish leaders to memorialise the six million victims of the Holocaust.
The audience will hear from Mairead McGuinness, First Vice President of the European Parliament, followed by words from Yuli-Yoël Edelstein, Speaker of the Knesset, honouring Holocaust survivors.
Representing the Conference of European Rabbis, Chief Rabbi Albert Guigui, will conclude the ceremony with a recitation of kaddish – the mourner’s prayer – before delivering closing remarks, warning the audience against intolerance and racialism.
Finally, the audience will stand for a minute of silence in honour of the six million victims of the Holocaust.
Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, President of the Conference of European Rabbis, said: “It is an honour for the Conference of European Rabbis to be represented at this European Parliament event. The last witnesses of the greatest crime in history are leaving the world of the living, and revisionist voices in Europe together with “cellar Nazis” travel again this dangerous road. Every decent human being with a conscience, must stand up for the sacred memory of the six million Jews who were murdered, to ensure that never again will a crime such as this be perpetrated by the human race.”
